Kawasaki H2 UTV: 250+ HP, 5 Seats, and Factory Fury
The sport UTV world just got a serious wake-up call. with the announcement of the Kawasaki H2 UTV
For years, the high-horsepower battleground has been a two-horse race between Polaris and Can-Am. Turbocharged monsters like the RZR Pro R and Maverick R have ruled the dunes and dominated the specs sheet. But now? Kawasaki is coming in hot with something entirely different — and possibly better.
Meet Project H2 — Kawasaki’s supercharged, fire-breathing side-by-side that’s packing up to 250 horsepower, five factory seats, and a race-tested pedigree that debuted at the Mint 400.

The First Factory Five-Seat Sport UTV
Let’s get this out of the way — yes, this thing seats five. From the factory.
That’s a huge deal in a segment where most go-fast UTVs top out at four passengers. If you’ve got a big family or a full riding crew, your only option until now has been a utility platform like the Polaris Ranger or Can-Am Defender — both of which sacrifice speed for space.
Not anymore.
Kawasaki is changing the game with the first true sport-class side-by-side offering five-passenger seating — straight from the factory floor. No sketchy jump seats. No cutting up your cargo bed. Just high-performance thrills for the whole crew.
250 HP… or More?
Powering this beast is a supercharged inline-4 engine, derived from Kawasaki’s legendary Ninja H2 sport bike. Official specs say “250 horsepower*” — but that asterisk matters.
Kawasaki is using ISO 4106 standards, which typically read higher than the SAE standards used by Polaris and Can-Am. Translation? This thing might be pushing well beyond 250 HP when tested apples-to-apples. Some insiders are already whispering it could be the first production UTV to hit 300 HP — putting it in a class of its own.
And if that doesn’t make your palms sweat, check your pulse.
Race-Proven at the Mint 400
This isn’t vaporware. Kawasaki brought their Project H2 engine to life at one of the gnarliest races in the U.S. — The Mint 400 — with help from Russ Wernimont Designs (RWD).
Their purpose-built race rig ran in the UTV Pro Open class, giving us real-world confirmation of key features:
- 999cc supercharged inline-4
- CVT transmission
- Long wheelbase (likely the base for the 5-seat chassis)
- Advanced suspension geometry with custom arms
While that race car is far from stock, it gives us a peek into the DNA of the production model — and confirms that Kawasaki isn’t playing around with it’s new Kawasaki H2 UTV.

Suspension That Thinks for Itself
All that power and seating doesn’t mean much if the suspension can’t keep up. Thankfully, Kawasaki has that covered with Fox 3.0 Live Valve shocks controlled by their proprietary KECS (Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension) system.
This setup monitors terrain in real-time, adjusting damping on the fly for a ride that’s just as comfortable blasting through whoops at 60 mph as it is crawling rocky trails with the kids strapped in.
